We've been waiting for this day!

The big day has arrived. It was my little girl's 2nd ballet recital last night!  This year is more exciting because they performed "The Sound of Music" which is a very popular musical. She has been watching the movie regularly and has already memorized most of the songs. She's been working so hard during rehearsals for the past five months! And we're all very excited to watch her performance. We were even seated in the first row with the proud grandparents. Unfortunately, CCP does not allow anyone to take pictures and videos during the show so we just have to wait for the DVD and official photos.

I am really happy that Belle is enjoying ballet.  Discipline, gracefulness, perseverance, punctuality, patience, self-confidence are just some of the admirable qualities that ballet has taught her for the past two years.  I hope she will not get tired of dancing because not all children are endowed with this talent.

Here are some of the pictures taken before and after the show.

So proud of you, Anak! Right after the show we rushed at the backstage and gave flowers to Belle and her friends.

Belle specifically requested for us to eat at Yakimix (MOA) but the waiting list was so long! We can't wait because we're already very hungry!  She still got to eat Japanese food at Tempura.

Very good na with her chopsticks :)

Full to the max :)
Congratulations and we look forward to your next recital Belle! We love you very much!

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music is considered one of the most beautiful and well-loved musicals of all times. Who does not know this musical? Maybe the younger generation but my little girl is not one of them.

Belle was introduced to this wonderful musical when she learned that their ballet recital for this year will be The Sound of Music.  From that day, she's been watching the movie regularly and has learned to love all the songs.

Belle has been dancing since March 2010 at Dainty Slippers Ballet.

Here's a short clip of her first favorite song Do-Re-Mi (June 2011)

They are now full swing in their rehearsals. I think their class (Primary) will be performing three dances during the show. Their recital is less than two months away which will be at the CCP Small Theater on December 28. I was able to take a short video during one of their initial practices (July 2011.)  Their performance is really something to look forward to!

I got very excited when I learned that Resorts World Manila will be staging The Sound of Music in the New Performing Arts Theater from October to December 2011 this year.  Belle will be able to see "the hills come alive" live in Manila!  Among her favorite songs are The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Goin' on Seventeen and So Long, Farewell.

Last October 14, the day before the actual run, Belle and I were given the chance to watch the Preview. My sister Ruth who was sick that time gave her pass to us.  What a treat!  My husband would have loved to come but the pass was for 2 persons only.  So he just watched the movie "Reel Steal" while waiting for us.

The Preview show was only open to the media and their guests.

The Sound of Music is a love story of a young governess Maria Rainer and the stern Captain Von Trapp. The Captain is a widower who has seven mischievous but very talented children. It's a heartwarming story of family love expressed in beautiful songs that will capture the hearts of everyone.

It's obvious that Belle can not contain her excitement while waiting for the show to start!
Only the press with valid IDs can take photos or videos during the show.  I still tried taking pictures hoping I will not be caught by the ushers. Pasaway talaga!  The pictures below were taken using my IPhone. I'm so sorry they're not very clear but they're still worth sharing.

Joanna Ampil as Maria Rainer singing "The Sound of Music"
Captain Georg Von Trapp (Audie Gemora) introducing his 7 children to Maria.
Liesl and Rolf singing "Sixteen going on Seventeen"
Baroness Elsa Shraeder played by Pinky Amador.

There was a 15-minute intermission.  By this time, around 9:45pm, Belle was getting so sleepy because it's already past her bedtime.  But she's doing her best to stay awake so she can watch the 2nd act.

Great cast!
The show was great, the cast was amazing and the lighting, sound and costume designs were all exceptional!  Music was rendered by The Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.  I've been able to watch several musical plays here and abroad (London) but The Sound of Music in RWM has a much more spectacular production because of the life-size set and accompanying video animation from the LED screen. Indeed a visual treat!

Belle might have fallen asleep before the show ended but the experience will stay with her forever!  Louie would also like to watch the show so there will be a 2nd time for me hopefully soon :)

Last photo op before doing home.
Special thanks to Jeman Villanueva of Orange Magazine TV for assisting us during the show.

You can still catch the The Sound of Music until December 11, 2011. Tickets are available at the Resorts World Manila Box Office (836-6333, 908-8833) and all TicketWorld outlets (811-9999.) Do not miss it, get your tickets now!
